Throughout recent months the Anamosa Community Board School Board has been working to identify its beliefs. This has been the primary work of monthly workshops and is nearing being ready as a final draft. This is the most recent draft.
Beliefs about Public Education
A well-educated public is necessary for our country to thrive. Public Education must:
Be available to all students without discrimination; students must have full, equitable access to meaningful opportunities for learning.
Ensure learning of an essential basis of knowledge and skills that every educated citizen needs and must address the learning needs of the whole child including academics, citizenship, social\emotional, physical development and skill, and appreciation of the arts.
Strive to continually improve student achievement across all aspects of learning; accountability to identified performance standards will result in better learners.
Be provided in an environment which is both physically and emotionally safe.
BeliefsaboutStudents
•Students are our future; as a nation, state and community we must invest in them now.
•Every student can learn. Every student deserves our equal and unwavering effort to help them achieve at their highest level and to develop into a resilient and responsible person. Every student can be successful at various levels regardless of their circumstances.
•No student should fall through the cracks in academic learning or in personal development. We believe in the students and will make every effort to help them fulfill their individual goals and potential.
•Students are the heart of our district.
They must be the center of every discussion.
They must be inspired to aim high.
They must be challenged, engaged and supported.
They must be respected.
BeliefsabouttheDistrict
•Anamosa is a unique community and deserves a school district that recognizes and addresses the needs of its students within the parameters by which it must abide.
•The Anamosa Community School District will demonstrate high expectations of governance, administration, teaching and learning by all in pursuit of excellence to ensure high levels of student learning and achievement, respect, inclusion and work ethic. The district will always meet the students where they are in skill, interest and abilities to help them attain their goals and potential.
•To the best of its ability, through the responsible use of available resources, the Anamosa Community School will strive to:
Function as a unit.
Provide a safe, nurturing, quality learning environment necessary for our students to achieve and be successful.
Ensure implementation of quality, current, and relevant curriculum and instruction which includes adequate availability and integrated use of technology to meet student needs.
Through its staff, demonstrate the belief that all students can grow to become responsible citizens.
Ensure staff work together to educate, nurture and support all students; specifically, that administrators and teachers will work collaboratively both horizontally and vertically.
Demonstrate continued commitment to continually developing its employees.
Be a respected and respectful employer.
BeliefsaboutGovernance
•The school board will guide through oversight of the district; through policy and understanding of the district’s big picture of operations, management and legal obligations. It will serve as a liaison between the public and the district. It will model civility and integrity as well as uphold the expectations held of staff. It will act collectively and not individually.
•The school board will define the mission of the district. It will identify and monitor goals and priorities toward meeting the mission as well as create and monitor the implementation of policy to support achieving the mission.
It will support administration and staff to manage the district per law, to implement its policy and to achieve identified goals and priorities.
It will ensure financial stability and appropriate funding of identified priorities within the resources available.
It will communicate the District’s mission, program needs and obligations to parents and community, and will seek their input through an open, functioning relationship.
It will maintain appropriate personal and professional relationships with all district employees to ensure unbiased oversight of the district.
